Self directed work

Next week is Formative week, please make sure that your Blogger reflects self directed research, experimentation, evaluation, application, and contextualisation, so that you are ale to receive feedback on your progress.

Task seven

Soviet Montage: here is a link of Alfred Hitchcock explaining in detail

When you cut film together it creates meaning, for example Hitchcock is a nice old man in the top sequence and a creepy old man in the second sequence. Try to cut two sequenced together showing how this works

Task Six

High key lighting (basically lots of light):

Low key lighting (basically little or one light):

Take two stills, one using high key lighting and one using low key lighting.

Self directed work

We are in week three, ideally there should be 18 hours of self directed work for your project at the end of this week: research, application, evaluation, experimentation, contextualisation, etc.

At this point you should be conducting pre-production: Planning, scripting, storyboarding, location hunting, etc.

Task Five

Find a clip/movie/video and select a still, examine the mise-en-scène (costume, camera, lighting, props) and try to recreate. An example can be seen below, follow this link for more information on  mise-en-scène.

video effects
fade in and fade out on the sound

Shot a walking sequence that uses the above camera movements.
(Don't forget other techniques that you have already learnt in task three: EWS, WS, CU, TS)

Task three

Camera handling techniques: shoot a 24 frame chase sequence and think about the relationship between the camera and the subject, for example how close, how far, how high, how low?
